South Division Headquarters renamed in honor of Sgt. Billy Randolph

On Wednesday, Jan. 28, the Fort Worth Police Department (FWPD) renamed the South Division Headquarters to Billy Randolph South Division Headquarters, in honor of Sgt. Billy Randolph. The ceremony took place at 3501 W. Risinger Road.

On Aug. 12, 2024, Sgt. Billy Randolph was tragically struck and killed at a crash scene on Interstate 35 near Sycamore School Road at 5:30 a.m. A tractor-trailer collided with a guardrail and caught fire. During the cleanup, he was supervising the scene when a vehicle drove the wrong way through barricades and struck him.

Sgt. Randolph was transported to John Peter Smith Hospital where he died from his injuries. The driver continued driving and when she stopped her car, fled on foot. She was apprehended and charged with intoxication manslaughter.

Randolph was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He began his law enforcement career in Academy Class No. 91, graduating from the academy in the summer of 1995. Randolph was a steadfast leader, a mentor to many and a respected figure, both within the Police Department and the community.

On Aug. 26, 2025, City Council voted on the resolution to approve the renaming. Both the City Manager’s Office and FWPD requested that the facility be renamed in honor of Randolph’s 30 years of dedicated service, leadership and sacrifice, exemplifying the highest standards of the Police Department.
