The Fort Worth Police Department (FWPD) reported 2025 offenses decreased 13.8%, with 48,016 offenses compared to 55,692 in 2024. Also in 2025, crimes against persons decreased 10.1%, crimes against property decreased 17% and crimes against society decreased 1.7%.

Fourth-quarter offenses in 2025 decreased 12%, with 11,841 offenses compared to 13,463 in the same quarter of 2024. Crimes against persons decreased 2.7%, crimes against property decreased 18.8% and crimes against society increased 12.8%.

FWPD has used the National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS) methodology for crime reports since 2006. NIBRS compiles detailed reports on two types of crime offenses: Group A offenses and Group B offenses. The groupings are based on the amount of reporting required for each.

The following criteria are used to determine whether a crime should be designated as a Group A offense:

The seriousness or significance of the offense.

The frequency or volume of its occurrence.

The prevalence of the offense nationwide.

The probability of the offense being brought to law enforcement’s attention.

The likelihood that law enforcement is the best channel for collecting data regarding the offense.

The burden placed on law enforcement in collecting data on the offense.

The national statistical validity and usefulness of the collected data.

The national Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program’s responsibility is to make crime data available not only to law enforcement, but also to others having a legitimate interest in it.

Group A offenses are categorized into one of three categories: crimes against persons, crimes against property and crimes against society. To learn more about the differences between NIBRS and the UCR Program, please visit fbi.gov/services/nibrs.

Crime prevention strategies commanders in each patrol division take preventative steps to address increased crime such as aggravated assaults, burglaries and motor vehicle thefts. All patrol divisions have strategic operating funds (SOF) used to address crime in their areas. Commanders work with the Real Time Crime Center, crime analysts and Neighborhood Police Officers (NPOs) to identify emerging trends and hotspot areas.

Commanders track previous crime trends and assign officers to prevent crime from occurring. They are in constant collaboration with other units in the department — including Gang, Narcotics, Vice, Homicide, Robbery and Family Violence — to reduce and solve crime.

The FWPD publishes quarterly crime reports to catalog crime statistics and provide a comprehensive review of department activities, crime rates and highlighted stories of community interest. View the full Q4 Crime Report and other reports.
