Did you know that April is National Volunteer Month? This is the time each year when the country pauses to recognize the contributions of millions of volunteers. We have much to celebrate here in Fort Worth; we have an active and committed community of volunteers who improve and shape our city daily.
The City of Fort Worth operated 45 volunteer programs across seven departments in 2025, engaging over 11,000 volunteers. These volunteers were incredibly active, logging over 435,000 hours. This is an immense achievement, and one that equates to an impact value of $15.1 million. Volunteers removed graffiti, supported safety efforts at large events like Cowtown Marathon and Mayfest, provided after-school homework help and senior enrichment at our community centers, monitored water quality and so much more.
Highlights from 2025 include:
208,161 pounds of litter were removed from our streets, parks and open spaces
1,358 kids were able to participate in four youth sports leagues thanks to volunteer coaches
87 neighborhoods were made safer through regular patrolling
2,710 animals were fostered, relieving pressure on our shelters and keeping animals off the streets
1,023 animals were transported to other states for adoption with the assistance of volunteers
32 sites were “adopted” and kept free of litter year-round
Fort Worth is a welcoming, vibrant city because of the time and energy volunteers pour into our community. If you’re looking for a way to give back, improve your city or find a community of your own, throw your Stetson in the ring and join us. Change your city, change your life.
