May is recognized as National Clean Air Month and emphasizes the importance of healthy air and how everyday actions can help maintain it.
This month-long initiative encourages everyone — residents, business owners and communities — to take part in helping reduce emissions through simple changes like limiting vehicle use, conserving energy and supporting sustainable efforts.
A month of air action
Residents in Fort Worth are encouraged to make simple choices to support better air quality, starting with easy activities throughout May.
Start off with Walk, Bike, and Roll to School Day on May 4. Students, families and school staff are encouraged to choose active transportation like carpooling.
Share tips during Air Quality Awareness Week, May 4-8, and incorporate air quality knowledge into your daily living.
Take part in Bike to Work Week, May 11-17, and Bike to Work Day on May 15. Both initiatives encourage residents to choose biking over driving as a more environmentally friendly and healthier way to commute to work.
Looking beyond May
Mark your calendars for more air quality initiatives. These initiatives promote ways to take steps, such as carpooling and using alternative energy, to help care for air quality all year long.
March 1-Nov. 30: Ozone season. Get educated on the causes of ozone and the effects that emissions from vehicles and industrial sources can have on air quality.
June 5: Clean Air Action Day. The event encourages residents to care for air quality and voluntarily take steps, such as carpooling and conserving energy, to help lower ozone levels.
Sept. 16: Ozone Day. Also known as the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer, this day serves as a commemoration of international cooperation and progress toward protecting and preserving the Earth’s ozone layer.
Sept. 11-Oct. 16: National Drive Electric Month. This initiative encourages residents to consider electric vehicles as an option and to explore their benefits.
Through the many local and nationwide air quality initiatives during the year, the City aims to build momentum, encourage participation and reinforce a shared responsibility for protecting the air in Fort Worth. Do your part and help prove that even small changes, when multiplied across a community, can lead to cleaner air for all.
