The Fort Worth Public Library invites families to celebrate the start of summer with its Summer Reading Kickoff event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 30, at Trinity Park, Pavilion 4.

Part of the library’s Freemium Summer, the event will include fun activities, food trucks, snow cones and stations with friends from the Fort Worth Police, Fire and Park & Recreation departments. Special events include a sensory-friendly storytime for children with sensory sensitivities at 10 a.m. and a free concert by Amplify 817 artist TRVR? at 1 p.m.

“Nothing says summer like yard games, snow cones and lots of reading,” said Midori Clark, library director.

Up for a challenge?

The celebration also officially kicks off the Mayor’s Summer Reading Challenge (May 30-Aug. 8). The challenge invites readers of all ages to keep learning and reading throughout the summer while earning prizes along the way. Earn your first prize by pre-registering today.

During the event, the library will also recognize winners of its Spring Bookmark Design Contest, whose bookmarks will be available at all Fort Worth Public Library locations throughout the summer while supplies last.
