Movies That Matter, a film series program offered in conjunction with the City of Fort Worth Human Relations Commission, presents “White Coat Rebels” at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, 3200 Darnell St.

About the film:
“White Coat Rebels” (2021, NR, 83 min.) follows medical students who, on their first day of medical school, recite the ancient Hippocratic Oath to “do no harm”— a ritual that reinforces the healing power of “the white coat.” And yet, few medical students are prepared to face the insidious power of the pharmaceutical industry, whose tentacles reach virtually every aspect of their profession and influence medical decision-making in ways few realize. A handful of student activists and mid-career iconoclasts confront Big Pharma’s power head-on, and in a David vs. Goliath-type struggle show that change is possible.

Movies That Matter is a free, quarterly film series that highlights important human and civil rights issues. Each event features a film screening, followed by a moderated discussion offering space for reflection and dialogue. Screenings are held in March, June, September and December.
