Councilmember Carlos Flores recognized Fort Worth Code Compliance Officer Jeremiah Courtright for going above and beyond his duties to help a resident facing difficult circumstances.

Courtright was commended for responding to a complaint at the home of a resident living without air conditioning, running water and electricity. Rather than simply addressing the code violation, Courtright took the extra step of connecting her with resources that could help restore essential services and improve her circumstances.

“Officer Courtright responded to the complaint at her house, he assessed the situation and did the compassionate thing and got her help,” Flores said. “He went above and beyond what was expected of him.”

Courtright worked with the City’s Neighborhood Services Department and Community Action Partners to help the resident restore essential utilities. He also returned to check on her, brought her cold water and helped her complete paperwork for SNAP benefits.

The recognition plaque presented to Courtright commends him for his “exceptional compassion, initiative and dedication to serving the residents of Fort Worth.”

His actions are a reminder that Code Compliance officers do more than enforce City ordinances. They also have opportunities to recognize when a resident needs help and connect them with resources that can make a meaningful difference.

As the plaque states, sometimes making a difference begins simply with taking the time to listen, care and help.
