The Fort Worth Code Blue Citizens on Patrol (COPS) program is a strong example of community partnership in action. Through this volunteer program, dedicated residents serve as extra eyes and ears for the Fort Worth Police Department, helping deter crime and report suspicious activity in the neighborhoods they know best.

After receiving specialized training, COPS volunteers patrol by vehicle, bicycle or on foot, supporting public safety efforts while strengthening the connection between police and the community. Whether assisting with neighborhood patrols, special crime prevention details, holiday parking lot patrols or police academy training, these volunteers play an important role in helping keep Fort Worth safe.

The COPS goal: “Working together to secure a strong community.”

What COPS volunteers do

Drive, walk or ride a bike around their neighborhood and report any suspicious person or activity to the police.

If there is a certain area that has had a wave of crime, they will do a special detail with police officers and flood the area with patrols.

During the holidays, they patrol the parking lots of malls and department stores.

Why join?

For residents who want to be more involved in their community, Code Blue COPS offers a way to turn commitment into action.

Volunteers help protect the places where they live, work and raise their families, while building relationships with neighbors and FWPD. It’s a chance to take pride in your neighborhood and be part of something bigger than yourself.

How to join

Be a Fort Worth resident

Be 18 years old

Pass a background check

Attend and complete a COP training course

The next training is Saturday, Nov. 14.
