Also known as: ESD

An emergency services district (ESD) is a political subdivision of the State of Texas, created by local voter approval and governed under Chapter 775 of the Texas Health and Safety Code, that funds and provides fire protection and/or emergency medical services, primarily in unincorporated areas. Each district is run by a board of commissioners and is supported mainly by property and sales tax revenue. Emergency services districts appear in Corpus Christi proceedings in connection with annexation, since territory annexed by a municipality that will provide emergency services may be removed from the district's boundaries. Nueces County contains numbered emergency services districts serving areas outside the city limits.
