A historic neighborhood in South Dallas designated on the National Register of Historic Places (1995) and as a City of Dallas Historic Landmark District (2000). It was one of the first planned residential subdivisions developed specifically for African-American families in Dallas, featuring bungalow-style architecture from 1916 through the late 1930s. The district is named for Phillis Wheatley, the first African-American woman poet in America, and is historically associated with African-American business leaders and civil rights pioneers, including Juanita Craft.
