The Trinity River is a Texas river formed by the confluence of its Elm Fork and West Fork just west of downtown Dallas, flowing southeast through Dallas County and onward to Galveston Bay. It is the longest river with its entire course inside Texas, and the City of Dallas lies wholly within the Trinity River watershed. Because of chronic flooding, the river corridor through Dallas is managed with levees, floodway structures and pump stations, and the city monitors water quality and stormwater discharges affecting the river.
